The
Owner
"Indeed
heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God,
also the earth with all that is in it." (1)
"For
the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great
God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes
a bribe. He administers justice for the fatherless and the
widow and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.
Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the
land of Egypt." (2)
The great
God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes
a bribe is the God of all mankind, not just of the children
of Israel to whom this verse was addressed. He is the God
of "heaven, and the highest heavens", and "also
the earth with all that is in it."
"In
the beginning God created the heavens and the earth... God
created man in His own image; in the image of God He created
him; male and female He created them." (3) "Have
you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the
Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth neither faints
nor is weary." (4)
"By
Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are
on earth, visible and invisible." (5) "All things
were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that
was made." (6) "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive
glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and
by Your will they exist and were created." (7) "The
angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised
up his hand to heaven and swore by Him who lives forever and
ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the
earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things
that are in it." (8)
From
Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently proclaims God
as the Creator of all the heavens and the earth. As Creator
of the heavens and the earth, they belong to Him. However,
a rebellion broke out in heaven which was transferred to this
earth (9), a lamentation and prophecy regarding Lucifer, "You
were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; I
established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You
walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were
perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity
was found in you." (10).
It is
God's purpose that the universe, heaven and earth, be brought
back into unity in and through Jesus Christ, our Creator.
