Your
Word Is A Light To My Path
"Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (1)
The Psalmist
testified, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light
to my path." Solomon added, "But the path of the
just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto
the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they
do not know what makes them stumble." (2)
As the
Word of God is meditated on and practiced, those who search
for truth will be ennobled. Those who search the scriptures
for understanding will be kept clean from all that is corrupt
and deceptive. "Blessed is the man whom You instruct,
O Lord, and teach out of Your law, that You may give him rest
from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.
For the Lord will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake
His inheritance. But judgment will return to righteousness,
and all the upright in heart will follow it." (3)
Jesus
said, "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think
you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of
Me." (4) The scriptures point to Jesus as the One sent
from heaven who speaks the words of God. "He who is of
the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes
from heaven is above all. And what He has seen and heard,
that He testifies... For He whom God has sent speaks the words
of God. (5)
God,
through Jesus Christ, has made plain through the scriptures
the path of life. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
(6) Jesus is also the One who gives light to every person
who is born into the world. (7) Our Creator, through the scriptures,
and by His Holy Spirit, gives us the light that lights our
paths. By reading the scriptures, He gives us wise instruction,
and with the aid of the Holy Spirit, He helps us to understand
what has been written. Christ, the King of glory, by His example
has shown us the way and has lighted the path.
