Blessed
Are Those Who Trust Him
"Blessed
are all those who put their trust in Him" (1).
Why are
those who put their trust in God blessed? Let's compare a
few verses of scripture. David ascribed many wonderful blessings
and values he received from the Lord when he said, "The
Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God
of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn
of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You
save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy
to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies" (2).
This is quite a list of blessings and benefits that David
gives credit to God for receiving from Him. David was always
giving praise to the Lord and the Lord blessed Him wonderfully
in many different ways.
The Lord
benefits and blesses even those who do not know Him or trust
Him. "He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good,
and sends rain on the just and on the unjust" (3). All
the benefits and blessings of nature is there for the "just
and the unjust".
Another
great benefit and blessing available to all of us is this,
"Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
and whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the
Lord shall not impute sin" (4). This is the greatest
of all blessings which God has made available to us through
Jesus. God is far more interested in us learning from our
mistakes and growing in grace and understanding than in punishing
us for bad behavior. In reality, He does not punish us. The
consequence of our bad behaviors is what punishes us. Blessed
in deed are those whose sins are forgiven.
