MY
COMPANION
"
'Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, against the Man who
is My Companion,' says the Lord of Hosts" (Zechariah
13,7, NKJV).
Among
the titles of Jesus, this one is certainly unique. For the
first and only time God calls His Son, "My Companion."
This is a title of endearment.
The mutual
companionship and inseparable oneness between Christ and the
Father are reflected in the words, "I and My Father are
one" (John 10:30, NKJV). Whatever Jesus did was based
on an inseparable relationship between Himself and the Father.
In the work of redemption, Father and Son were equal in loving
and giving, sharing and suffering. The Father so loved that
He gave, and the Son so loved that He came (see John 3:16).
There is a two-way communication system between Christ and
His Father that never broke down for even a second.
In His
relationship with the Father, Jesus never assumed or asserted
self-will in the slightest degree. This is confirmed by the
prayer Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, "Not my will, but
thine, be done" (Luke 22:42). At all times there existed
perfect unity, amity, and harmony between the Father and the
Son, His Companion. During His ministry on earth, Christ could
say without any hesitation, "He that hath seen me hath
seen the Father" (John 14:9). His compassion reflected
the Father's mercy and grace (see John 5:19, 20), and His
mighty works displayed God's greatness. In His intercessory
prayer Christ prayed, "All mine are Yours, and Yours
are Mine, and I am glorified in them" (John 17:10, NKJV).
This oneness can also be ours as members of God's family.
"Brethren are to be one in heart and soul, even as Christ
and the Father are one. Teach this, practice this, that we
may be one with Christ in God, all working to build up one
another."--Testimonies for the Church, vol. 8,
p. 6.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, may I experience the companionship
of Your beloved Son today. Amen.
