THE EXTRAVAGANT BENEFACTOR

"You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it" (John 14:14, NIV).

"Anything you may ask in my name, I will do it!" This is like a wealthy philanthropist who hands you a blank check, fully endorsed, and tells you to fill in any amount you wish, no questions asked. That's the way it is with Jesus, the "Extravagant Benefactor." The blank check endorsed by the name of Jesus and drawn on the Royal Bank of Heaven is available to all who fully trust in Him. Christ meant precisely what He said: "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it" (John 14:14, NIV, emphasis supplied). That's a pledge, a promise, and a guarantee. God's checks never bounce! His reserves of love are inexhaustible (see Ephesians 3:18, 19).

During the American Civil War, a young soldier lay dying on the battlefield. One of his comrades, at risk of his own life, gave him water, prayed with him, and comforted him. During these precious moments, the dying soldier dictated the following letter to his wealthy father. "Dear Dad, I am dying on the battlefield, and one of my buddies is helping me. If he ever comes to you, be kind to him for Charlie's sake. Your son, Charlie." Shortly after the war ended, the young soldier who had helped his friend found himself without work and unable to support his family. Driven by need, he went to Charlie's father and delivered the letter. After reading the letter, the father said to the young man, "Lad, you can have anything that my money and influence can buy."

God has promised, "Anything that my Omnipotence can provide is all yours in the name of Jesus." "But to pray in the name of Jesus is something more than a mere mention of that name at the beginning and ending of a prayer. It is to pray in the mind and spirit of Jesus, while we work his works, believe his promises, and rely on his matchless grace."--Signs of the Times, August 8, 1884.

My Prayer Today: Lord, I take my blank check today to the Royal Bank of Heaven, endorsed by Jesus' blood. Thank You for cashing it for me. Amen.
