THE
OBTAINER OF ETERNAL REDEMPTION
"Not
with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood
He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained
eternal redemption" (Hebrews 9:12, NKJV).
In a
masterful presentation of the superiority of Christ's high
priestly ministry, Paul extols his Redeemer as the "Obtainer
of Eternal Redemption." Two things stand out in this
title (1) Christ is the obtainer of redemption, and (2) the
redemption is eternal.
Everything
that Jesus did to obtain our redemption is described as better
than, greater than, and superior to the earthly sacrificial
system. Paul speaks repeatedly of the "better covenant"
(Hebrews 7:22, NKJV), a "more excellent ministry"
(Hebrews 8:6, NKJV), a "greater and more perfect tabernacle"
(Hebrews 9:11, NKJV). better promises (Hebrews 8:6, NKJV),
"better sacrifices" (Hebrews 9:23, NKJV). The supreme
focus of Jesus ministry was to obtain eternal redemption for
us. By His death. He delivered us, and by His intercession,
He preserves us.
The redemption
that was secured on the cross is described as "eternal"
(Hebrews 9:12, NKJV) in contrast with the temporary and provisional
nature of the Levitical system. Through our Saviour's death
and intercession, our salvation is secured and perfected.
Everything Jesus does in the plan of redemption is of eternal
consequence. There is nothing temporary or provisional about
the redemption Christ has obtained for us. Our redemption
is a long-term redemption. For all eternity the redeemed will
praise God for His eternal redemption. Commenting on Christ's
redemption for us, Ellen G. White wrote: "He is the One
who has made an infinite sacrifice in our behalf, the One
who has brought eternal redemption to our view."--Signs
of the Times, February 8, 1892.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, because You have obtained eternal
redemption for me, I have the assurance of eternal life. Amen.
