THE
ANGEL OF HIS PRESENCE
"In
all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His
Presence saved them" (Isaiah 63:9, NKJV).
How relevant
this title was to Israel in their complex pilgrimage to the
Promised Land! As the "Angel of His Presence," Christ
was ever present to protect, defend, and direct His people.
He was on duty twenty-four hours a day throughout their challenging
journey.
More
than eight times in the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy allusions
are made to "the Angel of His Presence." This special
title was attributed to Jesus because of His angelic protection
and watch care. Christ was constantly manifested in the pillar
of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. Through the
rock that followed Israel (see 1 Corinthians 10:4) and by
other manifestations, Christ was present with His people.
"The Son of God, although invisible to the congregation,
was the leader of the Israelites. His presence went before
them and conducted all their travels, while Moses was their
visible leader, receiving his directions from the Angel, who
was Christ."--Testimonies for the Church, vol.
3, p. 339.
God's
church, on its spiritual pilgrimage to the heavenly Promised
Land, has the assurance that "the Angel of His Presence"
is still leading. Through our modern Red Seas and Jordans,
and in our complex journeys, Jesus Christ leads, protects,
preserves, and defends His faithful pilgrims. He has personally
pledged, "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of
the age" (Matthew 28:20, NKJV). With such competent leadership,
we can journey safely into the Promised Land. "Christ,
the angel before whom Joshua stood, is now interceding for
us before His Father, as He is here represented as interceding
for Joshua and his people who were in deep affliction."--Practical
Addresses, p. 154.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, the Angel of Your Presence has
led me thus far. Lead me all the way to the Promised Land.
Amen.
