THE
MAN AMONG THE LAMPSTANDS
"In
the midst of the seven lampstands [was] One like the Son of
Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about
the chest with a golden band" (Revelation 1:13, NKJV).
In language
rich in meaningful symbolism, John the beloved, describes
his adorable Lord as walking "in the midst of the seven
lampstands" (Revelation 1:13, NKJV). What a wealth of
encouragement this portrait brings to God's church!
The seven
golden lampstands are a glowing, symbolic representation of
God's universal church in its completeness (see Revelation
1:20). The golden quality of the lampstands represents the
preciousness of the church in God's sight. There is nothing
in all the universe that is as precious to God as His church.
No wonder John sees Christ walking in the midst of His dear
people (see Revelation 1:20;2:1). He is the same one who appeared
with the three Hebrews in the burning furnace as the "fourth
man" in the fire (see Daniel 3:25). John's vision of
his Master walking majestically among the golden lampstands
is another reaffirmation of Christ's ever-abiding presence
with His people.
In Revelation
1:13, John sees Christ standing amidst the lampstands.
In chapter 2:1, he describes Him as walking among His
people. This is a double assurance of Christ's continuing
watchcare and presence. Our glorified Lord and Saviour still
walks with His people today and will do so until the end of
the age. "Christ is in the midst of the seven golden
candlesticks, walking from church to church, from congregation
to congregation, from heart to heart... [He] is the Watchman
of the house... The presence of Christ is the secret of our
life and light."--Signs of the Times, February
12, 1902.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, I am encouraged because You
constantly walk in the midst of Your people. Thank You for
Your abiding presence. Amen.
