THE
UNFAILING COMPANION
"Let
your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with
such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will
never leave you nor forsake you' " (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV).
In His
parting words to His disciples, Jesus personally guaranteed
His constant companionship. He said, "I am with you always,
even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20, NKJV). These
are the words of One who has never broken a promise. Christ's
promise of companionship and support can always be relied
upon. Whether we are passing through the flood or the fire,
prosperity or adversity, good days or bad days, success or
failure, the pledge is always the same: "I will never
leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV).
In the
crisis of the burning fiery furnace, Christ was personally
present with the three loyal Hebrews. Astonished, King Nebuchadnezzar
exclaimed, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst
of the fire... and the form of the fourth is like the Son
of God" (Daniel 3:25, NKJV). What a powerful testimony
to Christ's unfailing companionship! Even in the fire we can
depend on His gracious promise, "I will never leave you
nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV). Paul and Silas
also experienced Christ's companionship in prison (see Acts
16:25-34). No wonder they could sing a duet from their prison
cell!
Only
as Christ is with us can we sing in the midnight of adversity
and pain. "With a sense that Jesus is by your side, you
will have cheerfulness, hope, courage, and joy... Never, never
separate from Jesus. He never separates from us. By the cross
of Calvary He has given evidence of His deep love for us...
He says, 'I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.' "--Our
High Calling, p. 147.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, whether in prosperity or adversity,
I am confident of Your unfailing companionship. Amen.
