THE
WAY
"Jesus
replied 'I am the way; I am the truth and I am life; no one
comes to the Father except by me' " (John 14:6, NEB).
In His
famous trio of titles, Jesus declared, "I am the way...
no one comes to the Father except by me" (John 14:6,
NEB). A way is a road, a route, or direction; it is access
to a person or place. We speak of a roadway, railway, highway,
seaway, and skyway.
In the
world of spiritual and moral values, Christ is the way. He's
the way to God, the way to abundant life, and the way to true
happiness. He is not one of many ways, but the one and only
way. Access to God is available to all humanity through Christ
alone. He says, "No one comes to the Father except by
me" (John 14:6, NEB). Jesus came to open the door of
access to God.
The declaration,
"I am the way," should be welcome news for a world
lost in sin and unable to find its way. I remember as a little
boy being lost in the heart of a bustling metropolis. I felt
hopeless and frightened. Like lost sheep, we have all gone
astray and can find our way only through the One who is the
way.
When
Jesus declared "I am the way," He meant that He
is the way to victory and eternal life. He is the way to perfection
and true happiness. He is the way to reconciliation and peace
with God. He is the way from death to life, and from distance
to nearness. He is the way from bondage to emancipation.
We can
thank God that "we are not left to stumble our way along
in darkness. Jesus is at our right hand, proclaiming, I am
the way. And all who decide to follow the Lord fully will
be led in the royal path."--In Heavenly Places,
p. 142.
My
Prayer Today: Lord, to save me from my lostness,
You have given me Your Son as the way to life eternal. Help
me to walk in the way. Amen.
