I
Am the Lord Who Heals You!
"I
Am The Lord Who Heals You!" (1)
Israel
had escaped from their Egyptian oppressors at the Red Sea.
"So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they
went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three
days in the wilderness and found no water. Now when they came
to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they
were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah."
(2) The Lord provided for the bitter waters at Marah to be
made sweet for His people.
At Marah,
the Lord also "made a statute and an ordinance for them,
and there He tested them, and said, 'If you diligently heed
the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His
sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes,
I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought
on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.'"
(3)
"I
am the Lord, who heals you." Wow, how does He do that?
Well, let me start by referring you to an excellent book written
by Rex Russell, M.D., "What The Bible Says About Healthy
Living." Dr. Russell suffered from an extreme case of
diabetes and shares his experience of healing from his study
of the Lord's instructions to the Israelites, and from his
study of medicine and science. Dr. Russell's studies led him
to three simple principles, which if followed, "a multitude
of otherwise confusing decisions about health and diet can
be simplified. And you'll be healthier for it!"
The Lord's
promise for healing is conditional. It's based on His instructions
to His people and His laws. Dr. Russell explains God's laws
and statutes relating to health in detail and the science
behind them.
Who is
this Lord who heals us? Paul shed light on the subject when
he wrote, "Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be
unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed
through the sea. All ate the same spiritual food and all drank
the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ." (4)
What
was the "spiritual food" and "spiritual drink"
referred to by Paul?
"Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds
from the mouth of God." (5) "Jesus answered and
said to her, 'Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,
but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will
never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become
in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.'
" (6)
"Moses
did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives
you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He
who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
(7) "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall
never hunger and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."
(8)
"And
this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees
the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and
I will raise him up at the last day." (9)
