THE
SPIRIT OF TRUTH
"When
He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth" (John 16:13, NKJV).
Jesus
spoke of the Holy Spirit with His Disciples just before going
to Calvary. "But now I go away
to Him who sent Me,... It is to your advantage that I go away;
for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you;
but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come,
He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and
of judgment... However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has
come, He will guide you into all truth" (John
16:5, 7, 8, 13).
The Holy
Spirit is God's representative to His loyal followers. "I
will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper,
that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth, whom
the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor
knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will
be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you...
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your
remembrance all things that I said to you." (John
14:16-18).
The Spirit
of God dwells with all who seek God to guide them in life.
He will guide them into understanding the truths of God, of
how to live successfully in a rebellious world. He is the
source of our understanding of the truths of the Bible. God
is the source of the inspiration of the Bible (see 2 Timothy
3:16, 17) and the provider of the Helper to be our guide (John
14:15, 16, 26). God, the Bible, and the Spirit of God are
in harmony and unity, they speak with One voice. They are
the source of our knowledge and understanding of what is truth;
the love of God for the fallen race, the peace of God that
passes all understanding, the adoption of those who yield
their allegiance to God into His family, and much more.
God has
not abandoned the children of mankind. His Spirit gives "light"
to every being coming into the world (see John 1:9). God will
not force Himself on the human race. However, He will seek
for the lost, who do not even know that they are lost, as
a shepherd seeks for his lost sheep. God's purpose is to bring
humanity into harmony with the rest of His creation (see Ephesians
1:9, 10) and He can only do that with those who value His
values. His enemy seeks to destroy. God seeks to save. And
God sent Jesus as His Ambassador to this rebellious race to
provide an alternative existence for those who are attracted
by the values of God. And He sends His Holy Spirit as His
representative to each one of us to lead us to understand
His values. If you are willing "He
will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13)
