BEARING
WITNESS TO THE TRUTH
"Pilate
therefore said to Him, 'Are You a king them?' Jesus answered,
'You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born,
and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should
bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears
My voice' " (John 18:37, NKJV).
Jesus
answered, "You say rightly that
I am a King." "Now after Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold,
wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is
He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His
star in the East and have come to worship Him' " (Matthew
2:1, 2). It is commonly believed that the wise men were led
to interpret the unusual phenomenon of the "star in the
East" to be the fulfillment of Balaam's prophecy, "I
see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall
come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel (Numbers
24:17).
The prophecy
of Jeremiah provides insight into Christ's Messiahship, "
'Behold, the days are coming' says the Lord, 'That I will
raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign
and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the
earth' " (Jeremiah 23:5). John, the Revelator, prophesied
of the fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy when he declared
"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will
dwell with them, and they shall be His people... Then He who
sat on the throne said, 'Behold, I make all things new.' And
He said to me, 'Write, for these words are true and faithful'
" (Revelation 21:3, 5).
Jesus
stated, "For this cause I was born,
and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should
bear witness to the truth." God and Jesus Christ
have born witness to the realities of the physical and spiritual
worlds through the prophets. Jesus, in a unique way of coming
and dwelling in human flesh to live with us, has revealed
to us the truth about God, about the devil about our salvation,
and much more.
Jesus
declared to Pilate, "Everyone who
is of the truth hears My voice."
