UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWING GOD

"Thus says the Lord: 'Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,' says the Lord" (Jeremiah 9:23, 24, NKJV).

Knowing and understanding God is of far greater value than even the values of wisdom, power and wealth. For "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3). Getting to know God is the beginning of living His values forever.

Knowing God and understanding His ways and His values is truly the beginning of wisdom. And He values "exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness." "Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding" (Job 28:28). God desires that men become acquainted with His attributes, His unconditional love, His righteous judgments (Psalm 119:7), and His mercy.

"He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8).

God does not leave us in a vacuum. He tells us plainly what He expects of those who love Him and who have accepted Him as their Lord and Saviour. Those whom He saves are those who accept Him and His values into their lives. And His values benefit and bless us, for they are values of love, lovingkindness, respect for one another, using good judgment, being merciful, doing what is right and walking humbly with our God as His Holy Spirit leads us and enables us to live out His values in our lives. What a magnificent Leader He is!

It is our privilege and pleasure to get to know our Creator, our Saviour and our Friend. "Let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me." He loves you supremely, my friend.
