I
AM IN THE MIDST OF THEM
"Where
two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there
in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20, NKJV).
What
assurance. Christ's promises are for you and me. Every promise
in God's word is ours. "By every
word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew
4:4) are we to live. In the above verse, Christ was speaking
to His disciples. However, His promise is to all His sincere
followers who gather together in His name and He will be there
present with them in Spirit.
In His
name we are to pray and our prayers will be answered, "Whatever
you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will
do it" (John 14:13, 14).
In His
name we are saved: "Nor is there salvation in any other,
for there is no other name under heaven given among men by
which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12, see also Acts 2:21
and Joel 2:32).
In His
name demons are cast out, "Teacher, we saw someone who
does not follow us casting out demons in Your name" (Mark
9:38), "In My name they will cast
out demons" (Mark 16:17), and "Then the seventy
returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are
subject to us in Your name" (Luke 10:17).
In His
name we receive the Holy Spirit, "The
Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance
all things that I said to you" (John 14:26).
In His
name people are healed, "In the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And he took him by the right
hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle
bones received strength. So he, leaping up stood and walked"
(Acts 3:6-8, see Acts 4:10).
In His
name He will be present with us, "Whoever
receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever
receives Me receives Him who sent Me" (Luke 9:48).
There
is power in the name of Jesus for all who yield their allegiance
to Him and He is in their midst (see Matthew 28:18, 20 and
John 1:12).
