THE BREAD FROM HEAVEN

"Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world' " (John 6:32, 33, NKJV).

"Therefore they said to Him, 'What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, "He gave them bread from heaven to eat." '

"Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.'

"Then they said to Him, 'Lord, give us this bread always.' Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst... And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.' " John 6:30-35, 40).

The people had known Jesus by the witness of His healing the diseased, they had beheld His marvelous and miraculous feeding of the five thousand, they had the witness of John, and the witness of the Holy Spirit, by the revelation of God to their souls. "The living evidences of His power had been before them day after day, yet they asked for still another sign. Had this been given, they would have remained as unbelieving as before. If they were not convinced by what they had seen and heard, it was useless to show them more marvelous works. Unbelief will ever find excuse for doubt, and will reason away the most positive proof.

Christ continues to appeal to stubborn hearts. 'He who comes to me I will not cast out.' All who receive Him in faith, He says, 'will have everlasting life.' No one need be lost. No longer need men and women mourn in hopeless grief over their dead. "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

"For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world" (John 6:33).
