YOU
KNOW MY FATHER
"If
you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and
from now on you know Him and have seen Him" (John 14:7,
NKJV).
Jesus
is here telling His disciples that if they know Him, they
know His Father. "Philip said to Him, 'Lord, show us
the Father, and it is sufficient for us.' Jesus said to him,
'Have I been with you so long, and yet
you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen
the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father
in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My
own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or
else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.'
" (John 14:8-11).
Jesus
made the same appeal to leaders of the Jews. He said, "I
and My Father are one... If
I do not do the works of My Farther, do not believe Me; but
if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works,
that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and
I in Him" (John 10:30, 37, 38).
A little
while later, after the last supper, Jesus said, "Indeed
the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered,
each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not
alone, because the Father is with Me" Jesus continued,
"These things I have spoken to
you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will
have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the
world" (John 16:32, 33).
God the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are One. They act in unity
to bring salvation to a lost and deceived race. Jesus made
the unity and relationship with His Father even more intimate
and close with His disciples and with us when He said, "The
Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have
believed that I came forth from God." (John 16:27).
Speaking
to Mary following His resurrection, Jesus said, "Go
to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father
and your Father, and to My God and your God.' "
(John 20:17).
God the
Father loves you and me with an everlasting love, "The
Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: 'Yes,
I have loved you with an everlasting love; - with lovingkindness
I have drawn you' " (Jeremiah 31:3).
Jesus
has introduced us to the Father. By knowing Jesus, we know
the Father. We know what He is like. He is like Jesus. The
Father and the Son, they are One. Hallelujah, they love you
and me!
